Fiction Friday: Has your main character ever done something they were ashamed of?

It's Fiction Friday, the meme for writer-bloggers! For those who are taking part, share a snippet on your work and link-up. Support each other, and if the blogger asks, give them constructive criticism! If you don't have anything to share this time, answer this week's question:

Has your main character ever done something they were ashamed of?

To see past and future questions for the next few months and find out more about this feature, visit the main About Fiction Friday post.
I'm posting chapters of a fantasy short story for the next few Fiction Fridays, but there will be a little delay because of some pretty major changes in my life these past few weeks. Bear with me!

  1. Well, Eva (the protagonist in my WIP) does a couple things she's ashamed of during the course of the story. I'd love to say more, but those would be huge spoilers. ;)

Wait. She did do something in the past that she's ashamed of, too. It's sort of complicated to explain... but she once performed a forbidden spell to save her fighting instructor from being killed. Since there was evidence that said forbidden spell had been performed, whoever had cast it would have to be banished from the kingdom. (The authorities couldn't determine who had actually cast the spell - but they had to accuse someone.) Eva's instructor took responsibility for it so Eva wouldn't have to be exiled. So, she's ashamed of having cast that spell because someone she respected and cared about sacrificed his good standing in society so she wouldn't have to. Does that make sense?

Hope all is going well, Ashana! :)

    1. Wow. INCREDIBLE. =D I and extremely interested in the circumstances surrounding that entire issue and also the politics of your fantasy world, and the specifics regarding the spell she used.

This is great! The link-up is available now, so it you write a post about this, you can add your link until next Thursday. =D Remind me - what was your WIP called (if it has a name)? And thanks Sara - I'm doing okay. c:

  2. Hmmm... Well, yes. In my story, the main character put several of her classmates in a bacterially-induced coma (on accident, of course) and it makes her have a lot of self-doubt about her worth and her ability to function well in society because she doesn't want it to happen again and yet at the same time she doesn't want to live under a rock the rest of her life!

    1. O_O oh man, that is crazy. (How on earth did she do that?!) But the emotional consequences make perfect sense. The linky is up now so you're welcome to add a link of a post/fiction snippet that answers this question. Thanks for commenting!

  3. I am actually going to join in this week. I even know what snippet I would like to post, so hopefully I can get organised and post it this time (says she with a look of hope cast towards her terrible memory). Will there be a linky at all? Or how do we link up with this? In the comments?

    1. Hi Imogen! Some hiccups this week, but the linky is up now and will close next Thursday. I WOULD LOVE TO READ A SNIPPET! =D So I'll keep an eye out for that. I'm having trouble posting stuff in time because unexpected events keep cropping up and then all of a sudden - it's Monday again, back to work. e_e I'll figure it all out eventually!

Looking forward to your post, and thanks for your comment.

    2. I have to apologise for not getting a post done this week. I love this feature and I keep promising to join. And then life whacks me with a stick. Or in this case five art projects to complete in a week. Being definitely not an artist, that took a lot longer than I thought and threw my blogging out of whack. I'm going to share this link up on Facebook as soon as the new subject is up thouh, and promise to try join in this coming week. We shall have people linking up very shortly if I can help it.

    3. Aw I get you! It's the same problem I'm having why I haven't been posting. I have no idea when I can get my life into some sort of pattern/order again. Well, thanks for dropping by and good luck with your art projects!

Also, the reason I haven't been linking up may be the same reason others aren't. We always have good intentions but getting round to actually writing... tricky.

  4. My MC did something he was ashamed of in the past.

He and his friends accidentally set fire to a block of flats, killing several people.

    1. D= That's awful! Damn! How did that come about? (Unless it's a spoiler... although I don't mind spoilers so you can tell meee *hopeful smile* ) LOL I'm joking.

Will you do a post on it? The linky is open until next Thursday, it would be great to see your post. (I admit though, I still need to do some blog-catching up!) Thanks for dropping by.
