Bad Habits Of Every Blogger

I was beating myself up just now about missing my Tuesday post, because what I was GOING to post... well, I suddenly hated it. It was boring and not at all funny. I couldn't figure out what I wanted to post about instead. Then suddenly I woke up to Wednesday morning. O_O

I felt so frustrated about skipping a post day that I sat down to schedule some posts to avoid that problem. But then I realised, everything flowed out of my head much better this time round. Maybe Tuesday was just a bad day. Or maybe my bad blogging habits - writing the post on the day it'll be posted, putting myself under pressure, having boring content, etc - was the reason. So I made up this little questionnaire... do you recognise yourself in any of these scenarios?

1. You are flailing about something. You:
a) Type a bunch of random letters on your keyboard (Cait e_e)
b) TYPE IN CAPITALS (me.)
c) Don't even type, because, ugh, the feels.

2. Something unexpected comes up. But it's okay because...
a) You have posts scheduled for the next three years.
b) You're going to quickly finish a draft of something you were tagged for and post that.
c) Who are you kidding. NOTHING IS OKAY. Just forget about posting anything. (me.)

3. Something cool in your life happens.
a) Post about it on a designated Everything-Goes day where you talk about your life.
b) Post about it in-between your book reviews because you have to share!! (me.)
c) Don't post it at all, because helloo? This is a book blog.
d) Your blog is ABOUT your life, which renders this question meaningless.

4. Fangirling on your blog?! Dude, that's totally...
a) NOT COOL.
b) Okay, but keep it to yourself, man.
c) AWESOME!! I LOVE HARRY POTTER! (me.)

5. You said you were going to post That Thing of Whatever on Thursday, but Thursday was yesterday. So...
a) You hurriedly finish it up and post on your next post day, knowing that now ALL of your posts will run behind.
b) You stick to your schedule, waiting for the gap/holiday you planned earlier so you can post it then.
c) You stick to your schedule, and because you are a mess you had no gaps or even a plan so now that post just sits there, getting older and older and less relevant as time goes by until you eventually stop trying to find a time to post it and two years later when you look back you wondered why you wanted to post it in the first place..? *sings* de-le-eeee-te!

(*cough*, me.)

6. You're making a joke in your blog post! What better way to emphasise it than to...
a) Use a lot of exclamation marks.
b) USE A GIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
c) Nothing is needed. The joke will automatically be funny. (... me...? I guess?)

7. You scheduled a post. Um...
a) Shit. It went live before it was meant to. (me.)
b) Shit! It was supposed to go live! WHY DIDN'T IT GO LIVE?!
c) How do you schedule a post?

8. You're trying to format a post in f&$%@#! Blogger. And what happens?
a) It deletes your entire post content, autoaves the blank post, and no matter how many times you press undo does not come back. You have not saved it elsewhere. (me.)
b) It goes perfectly, and you post an absolutely gorgeous article. (everybody else.)

9. You're trying to think of something to blog about. Your mind goes blank.
a) Post some crap.
b) Post some tag/meme/challenge/game you *coughstole* from somebody else's blog.
c) Post nothing. (me.)

10. Your blog looks ugly. You...
a) Leave it. Designing is work. Work is HARD.
b) Switch to Wordpress, buy an affordable theme and make it look pretty.
c) Attempt to design a header yourself to go live on January 1st, only it's the 15th and it's still not ready yet because you do not have all of the materials required to make it fabulouso and perfect and meanwhile you search online for free themes and after uploading the template to your blog which completely messes up all of your widgets the template then proceeds to open a link it hid on your blog to an adult pornography site. You don't have to guess who this happened to, do you?

ME!

Ashana Lian .
P.S. I will never again use a free template.
P.P.S. I hope my blog is okay after the stupid hidden links template! I've checked it and it seems to be fine. I swear, that gave me SUCH a scare.
P.P.P.S. I'm getting really addicted to making blog banners on Befunky. c:

    1. Ugh, I know. It's amazing how, in many ways, we're much better at blogging when we first start and the love is fresh. Then later, when it has the potential to become a chore, we start getting really lazy and really shoddy and being like "What do I post about - ?!" and "Eh... cba to post today..." XP

I started to schedule posts but that went downhill VERY QUICKLY. (^^ See Q7. -_-) Thanks for commenting!

  2. Wow, amazing post and thank god I'm not a full blogger. I never have to worry about these things!! I only have to worry about Tabitha getting on my ass for not reading anything recently (she rarely does this though). I post basically whenever I feel like it, lol. Lucky me.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed the post! To be honest, I think it's mainly the ones who devote themselves to blogging who have these problems. If you just blog when the feeling takes you, it's a very different experience. LOL!! If I'm not mistaken, Tabitha is your... co-blogger..??! I've definitely seen her name somewhere!!

The pros definitely outweigh the cons for me - or I wouldn't still be blogging, that's for sure! Blogs are meant to be fun, not stressful!! :3

  3. I totally recognise myself in some of these *hangs head* Especially number 9. Always post some rubbish. Or hope I can come up with something amazing on the day. Thankfully I generally schedule my posts ahead of time, so I usually have some wiggle room. Thank goodness for scheduling habits! Totally saves me when life goes bananas. This is such a fun post Ashana!

    1. #9 is a problem for me too, because I shuffle through my old drafts to post something from there and I don't like any of them. And also, like #5, many of those drafts are old content and no longer relevant. =/ Scheduling IS a brilliant idea. I just wish I wasn't having such trouble getting the hang of it!

Thanks for commenting Imogen, I'm glad you liked it.

  4. LOL, that was such a funny post! I recognized myself a couple of time, lool. Especially number 5. I do that ALL the time. I'm allways two to three weeks late on my posting schedule, haha. Number 9, too. It's totally me. If I don't have any idea, I simply don't post. OMG, I din't know that downloading a Template could cause so much trouble! I designed my blog myself, I didn't want to spend money on a Template. And it never occured to me that there could be free Template, lol. Now I know that I should stay away from them. Great post!! By the way I changed my blog address, here's the new link: http://sage-noire.blogspot.co.uk/

    1. Number 5 is the bane of my blogging life. It's honestly getting ridiculous. I must say, I know many people who've used free templates with no trouble at all. Naturally, it would just be me that got the dodgy one. e_e I would say though, it's probably best to use a site recommended by another blogger instead of just typing 'blogger templates' into Google, like I did. *facepalm*

Thanks Carla! I mean Sarah!! O_o I'm gonna add it to the dashboard now.

    1. Hellooo! Aw, glad you think so. I'm racking my brains trying to think of fun content but...
O_O IT'S HARDER THAN IT LOOKS. Yep, we can follow each other.

  7. Oh my goodness, this is so hilarious and relatable. I'm now going to backup that other post I was writing just the other day, hmm? AND CAPS. THEY ARE IRRESISTIBLE.

    1. I would definitely say, if you've written a really long blog post, BACK IT UP. To be honest, the reason that happened is because I had to switch to the HTML part for blog buttons and images and links and fiddly things. I'm pretty sure I pressed CTRL +Z, aka Undo... yeaaah, don't do that in HMTL. For me, it erased everything and then blogger autosaved it. GARGGHH

  8. I recognize a lot of these in myself; THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. Very real, you have no idea. But still, fangirling isn't a decision, it's a lifestyle. WE CANNOT RESIST.

Thanks for sharing, though, because lol!

Also, I've tagged you here for the Sisterhood of World Bloggers Award (even though I know you've already done it): http://semilegacy.blogspot.com/2015/01/sisterhood-of-world-bloggers-award-ii.html

    1. I love that!!! Fangirling IS a lifestyle. Even my university friends know that my ears perk up at anything Legend Of Zelda created. If I wasn't paying attention to something and they suddenly said "Legend Of Zelda", they would have my complete and undivided attention (lmao). I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the award! I have a huge amount of posts to get through but I'll try and get round to it quickly.
